What Is Encoded Intention?

A quiet introduction to the idea behind encoded ornaments.

Every Ornament Begins with a Word

Look at the ornament.

You won't find a word inside it.

No letters.

No hidden message.

And yet every line began with one.

Each design in this collection starts with a single word, which is gradually transformed into a geometric ornament.

By the time the process is complete, the word itself has disappeared.

Its structure remains.

Inspired by a Historical

Ukrainian Tradition

The idea behind this method was inspired by Brodivske Pysmo—a little-known historical tradition of Ukrainian embroidery.

Research by ethnographer Volodymyr Pidhirniak showed that letters themselves could become the foundation of ornamental structures.

Encoded Intention does not reproduce historical embroidery.

It takes one idea from that tradition and continues the conversation in a contemporary way.

Every Word Creates a Different Ornament

This is not a collection of decorative motifs.

There is no master pattern repeated over and over.

Each ornament is built from a different word.

Love does not become the same geometry as Strength.

Protection is not constructed like Harmony.

The structure always changes because the word changes.

More Than Embroidery

Once created, an ornament is no longer tied to fabric.

It can become:

• a small embroidery

• a greeting card

• a piece of jewelry

• a wall object

• a handmade gift

• or simply a quiet reminder carried through everyday life.

The material changes.

The structure remains.

This Library

The pages in this library explore different parts of the story.

Why begin with words?

Why Ukrainian?

How does a word become geometry?

How is every ornament different?

Each article looks at one part of the method.

Together, they reveal the whole picture.
